Since the 50th birthday of Hip-Hop earlier this month we’ve been celebrating by bringing you exclusive interviews from artists who have made their mark on the culture. Today we bring you MCJB of JJ Fad. It is because of groups like JJ Fad that female rap artists are at an all-time high in the industry. The group endured the days when they were in the minority, however that didn’t stop them from making their mark as the first act out of Ruthless Records, making it possible for greater things to come. Peep the interview with our own Todd Davis below!
To quote the late, great The Notorious B.I.G., “You never thought that Hip Hop would take it this far!” — Was this something that you ever could’ve imagined?
Never would have imagined it would last 50 years, but we knew this new genre called Hip Hop was something special.
What are some of your fondest, most stand-out moments / memories from your lengthy tenure in this thing called Hip Hop?
Our greatest memory was being on the first national tour [Run’s House].. Being the only females on that tour was so much fun, and we created memories to last a lifetime.
That said, what are your future plans and / or goals throughout the remainder of 2023, going right into ‘24?
Our future goals are to continue touring, and release a single in late 2024.
Switching gears here, what exactly do you want people to get from your music?
We want our fans to enjoy our uplifting and full of energy music that makes people feel good and smile.
On a more serious note, are you happy with the current state of Hip Hop?
The current state of Hip Hop is very different than our era. What I do like though is how women are taking over and honing their craft. They are doing it by themselves, and don’t need men to control their musical careers.
What do you feel has and will continue to be the key to your longevity?
The key to our longevity is just to keep doing shows and remaining relevant on social media. That way we can continue interacting with our fans.
What is your favorite part about this line of work? Your least favorite? And, why?
Our favorite part about our career is touring, and being able to meet our fans personally.
What advice would you have for someone wanting to follow in your footsteps?
The best advice we could give up and coming artists is to be true to who they are.
Lastly, what’s up with Baby D & Sassy C [J.J. Fad]?
Baby D, Sassy, and JB are still going strong and continuing to tour together, and we have the most amazing sisterhood.
Looking ahead, say five or maybe even ten years from now, where do you see yourself?
Looking ahead 5-10 years, we want to continue to do what we love, which is being onstage and entertaining crowds.
