Native Los Angeles rapper / producer Dazzie Dee, née Lidell Williams, was initially slated to drop his major label debut, Where’s My Receipt? [Capitol Records] back in 1996, but unfortunately was dropped from the label with the project, which featured high profile appearances from Ice Cube, Coolio [R.I.P.], K-Dee, Tha Chill, Mixmaster Spade [R.I.P.] and Toddy Tee with 15 of its 18 tracks produced by none other than DJ Battlecat, being then shelved indefinitely.
2009 saw Dazzie finally releasing an official reissue on his own Gee’d Up imprint.

West Coast Styles recently linked up with the former Lench Mob Records’ signee, whose very first EP, Turn It Loose, was helmed by Dr. Dre and Sir Jinx who Dazzie had actually met way back when he was only 14 years of age.

Let’s hop right into this latest entry, “Out the Mud Remix,” featuring K-Dee & MC Random — Tell me about this particular track; how did it actually come to fruition?

The original version is just Random and myself; Random is one of my favorite underground MCs, but I didn’t know him so my bro, Don Dubb, made the connection and it was magic after that…

As far as K-Dee on the remix, it just made perfect sense since he was on the “30 Years Later Remix” and killed it!!!

Of course “Out the Mud Remix” follows on the heels of “Fakin Da Funk Remix” — Talk to me ‘bout this song…

It’s one of my favorite songs off the West Coast Boom Slap album, and since we knew it was going to be the next single Slag and I decided to drop a remix. We wanted to give it a classic Hip Hop feel, and the rest is history!!!

As a lyricist, when you sit down to pen your rhymes where do you draw inspiration from?

All the great MCs before me; I love lyricism, so people like KRS, Kane, Rakim, Cool J, G Rap, Ice Cube, King Tee. The list goes on!!

Reflecting, tell me your whole inception into music — When did you first become interested in it? And, how did it all begin for Dazzie Dee?

My auntie Mag [R.I.P.] had a record player and my older cousins had a record called “Super Rhymes.” I played the hell out of that record, and have been in love with Hip Hop ever since!!! I believe at around 12 years old, and been having the same passion for it ever since!

Now you’re a native of Compton, CA, correct? And growing up in ‘the Hub City,’ who all did / do you consider to be your strongest musical influences?

I’m actually from South Central born and raised, but I have lived in the CPT long enough to be considered an official Compton citizen. Lol! As far as my influences, I’d say King Tee, Toddy Tee, Mixmaster Spade [R.I.P.] and Ice-T.

In having said that, how do you classify your overall sound and / or style?

“Different!” I’m proud to say I sound like no one!!! Of course people try to compare you, so I’ve heard Snoop and Hutch from Above the Law but like the saying goes, “Comparison is the thief of joy,” and I’m very proud and happy being original.

Switching gears here, what exactly do you want people to get from your music?

Consistency, Quality music and to understand the effort that’s put into making the songs we release. We still have an old school way of creating by actually putting in the work and doing the knowledge, so hopefully people will hear it and feel it!

If you could collaborate with any one artist, living or dead, who would it be and why?

Tupac and I were very close, so one of my biggest regrets is not doing any actual music together, Kool G Rap…I had a chance to collaborate on a record with him, but due to time restraints I wasn’t able to write my verse. Also, my favorite Masta Ace!

If you could play any venue in the world, which one would you choose and why?

Apollo and Staples Center!

On a more serious note, are you happy with the current state of Hip Hop?

Yes, Hip Hop has went bacc to its roots which is underground and it’s cats out here doing great work. It’s some dope music out there if you take the time to look!

What do you feel has and will continue to be the key to your longevity?

Consistency. I also work on my craft daily and have a team around me that’s dope af!! Shout out Slag Dogg and my DJ Mista Ed!

Do you have any other outside / additional (future) aspirations, maybe even completely away from music?

Directing. I love cinematography; I would also love to score film and television one day!

To date, what has been your biggest career moment(s), at least thus far anyway?

Being part of the Lench Mob, and being accepted as a producer as well as an MC.

What’s an average day like for you?

Music, Music and more Music!!

Please discuss how you interact with and respond to fans…

I’m on all social platforms, and try my best to respond to fans; Facebook: Dazzie Dee Williams IG: @dazziedee.og X: OGDazzieDee TikTok: bigdazzog.

What is your favorite part about this line of work? Your least favorite? And, why?

Being creative. I love to get up everyday and see what I can come up with next; Music, Rhymes or Visuals!

What advice would you have for someone wanting to follow in your footsteps?

Work hard, Stay consistent and never feel like you can’t learn anything new!

Looking ahead, say five or maybe even ten years from now, where do you see yourself?

Film and TV Scoring!!!

As for the immediate, what’s next for Bigg Saccs?

Beats, Beats and more Beats!!!!

Btw, what’s up with Lench Mob?

We’re all good! Focusing on our individual projects at the moment.

Is there anything I left out or just plain forgot to mention?

New projects dropping soon like Beat Slapperz Presents the Re-Slaps, which are all dope remixes, and also a project with K-Dee.

Lastly, any “parting” words for our readers?

Shout out to my groups the Lench Mob and my partner in rhyme, Dao Poeta a.k.a. New Legend, and, of course, my production team the Beat Slapperz and my visual team, Graham and Otis a.k.a. “Creators Create,” we’re here!!! And also, thank to you for this opportunity!!! Can’t forget everyone who has supported and follow the movement. We all appreciate you!!! Dazzie Dee / Big Saccs CEO Gee’d Up Records.
