West Coast rap trio, Doggy’s Angels, formed by Snoop Dogg and comprised of Big Chan, Coniyac and Kola Loc, ascended to number 1 on the Hot R&B / Hip-Hop Songs chart in 2000 with “Baby If You’re Ready,” taken from the collective’s impressive debut LP,  Pleezbaleevit!.

Although, unfortunately, a much deserved sophomore album wouldn’t be in the cards, the group definitely still left an impressionable stamp on the entire culture as a whole.

West Coast Styles recently tapped in with one-third of the Angels, Big Chan, who has since  shifted her main focus over into the world of fashion.

First things first, last year (August 11th 2023 to be exact) marked the 50th Anniversary of Hip Hop — What exactly does that mean to and for you?

Hip Hop evolving into five decades is insane; I’m just so grateful for how far we’ve come, and I’m proud that I’m a part of it.

To quote the late, great The Notorious B.I.G., “You never thought that Hip Hop would take it this far!” — Was this something that you ever could’ve imagined?

Well, I never thought I would be designing clothes for some household names that’s for sure.

What are some of your fondest, most stand-out moments / memories during your lengthy tenure in this thing called Hip Hop?

Our first tour Snoop took us on – Puff Puff Pass Tour – we were performing for thousands night after night, and our fan-base showed up going word for word. Unforgettable.

That said, what are your future plans and / or goals throughout the remainder of 2024 and beyond?

I’m looking towards investing. I’m researching and learning, eager to try something new.

Switching gears here, what exactly do you want people to get from your music?

This time it’s just me in all of my transparency; I’ve always been in groups so people have an idea of me, but on this next journey you’ll actually get to know me.

If you could collaborate with any one artist, living or dead, who would it be and why?

Pharrell and Stevie Wonder both are genius, and I know magic would happen and I would have to stretch myself and dig deep; I’m up for that challenge when it presents itself.

If you could play any venue in the world, which one would you choose and why?

I’m still on the fence about that; I’ve never made it overseas yet, and I think that would be great to have people know your music that don’t speak your language.

On a more serious note, are you happy with the current state of Hip Hop?

Not really.

What do you feel has and will continue to be the key to your longevity?

Being true to myself.

Do you have any other outside / additional (future) aspirations, maybe even completely away from entertainment?

I love to design clothes.

What’s an average day like for you?

Phone calls, emails, fittings and creative meetings with my team.

Please discuss how you interact with and respond to fans…

I’m a laid back person; I speak and appreciate the love I receive.

What is your favorite part about this line of work? Your least favorite? And, why?

I love the outcome, but the process could be rigorous…but to see the smile on my client’s face makes it all worthwhile.

What advice would you have for someone wanting to follow in your footsteps?

Be patient, be passionate and unstoppable.

Looking ahead, say five or maybe even ten years from now, where do you see yourself?

Married with stepkids. 😊

Any “parting” words for our readers?

Always KEEP GOD FIRST!
