Formerly known as Big Saccs, veteran rapper-producer-cinematographer and former member of the West Coast based label, Lench Mob Records, Dazzie Dee has been putting in that work for the better part of the last three and a half decades.
First things first, last year (August 11th 2023 to be exact) marked the 50th Anniversary of Hip Hop — What exactly does that mean to and for you?
It shows authenticity will always win, Hip Hop music is the king of creativity.
To quote the late, great The Notorious B.I.G., “You never thought that Hip Hop would take it this far!” — Was this something that you ever could’ve imagined?
I always knew Hip Hop would be as big as it is; the thing about Hip Hop is that it has so many sub genres, almost any music lover can find something to enjoy.
What are some of your fondest, most stand-out moments / memories during your lengthy tenure in this thing called Hip Hop?
Meeting other great minds and talents; such as Tupac, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Kool G Rap…the list goes on.
That said, what are your future plans and / or goals throughout the remainder of 2024 and beyond?
Creating more music for my fans, old and new!
Switching gears here, what exactly do you want people to get from your music?
The effort and creativity that goes into each song and project; from creating the songs with the Beat Slapperz, Slag Dogg mixing and mastering, to the visuals from Electric Palmtrees, Otis Frizzell and Videos by MUSE1…the effort we put in is phenomenal!
If you could collaborate with any one artist, living or dead, who would it be and why?
Kool G Rap because he’s a lyrical legend, and Kokane ‘cause he’s incredible with making songs come to life. Tupac, because although we were close we never got a chance to record music together. Also, there’s a few R&B singers I would love to work with.
If you could play any venue in the world, which one would you choose and why?
Staples Center, the (Kia) Forum and the Apollo.
On a more serious note, are you happy with the current state of Hip Hop?
Yes, it’s going bacc to the underground.
What do you feel has and will continue to be the key to your longevity?
Creativity and effort.
Do you have any other outside / additional (future) aspirations, maybe even completely away from entertainment?
Videography and Film Scoring.
What’s an average day like for you?
Wake up, Exercise, then hit the studio with the Beat Slapperz cooking music.
Please discuss how you interact with and respond to fans…
By social media; I’m on all platforms.
What is your favorite part about this line of work? Your least favorite? And, why?
My favorite is creating, least favorite is watching people use the art form incorrectly.
What advice would you have for someone wanting to follow in your footsteps?
Work hard, always look for ways to be creative and just be different!
Looking ahead, say five or maybe even ten years from now, where do you see yourself?
Scoring films or Directing.
Is there anything I left out or just plain forgot to mention?
Be on the lookout for my new projects; Dazzie Dee & K-Dee Next Door Neighbors, Dazzie Dee Loud Silence.
