As a protégé of the late “Godfather of Gangsta Rap,” Eric ‘Eazy-E’ Wright, emcee-songwriter B.G. Knocc Out is most prominently known for his scathing Dr. Dre diss collaboration, “Real Muthaphuckkin G’s,” taken from E’s 1993 EP, It’s On (Dr. Dre) 187um Killa. Growing up in both Compton and Watts, Knoccie, along with older-half brother, Dresta, would later go on to unleash their first studio, LP, Real Brothas, on Outburst / Def Jam Records in August ’95.

First things first, August 11th 2023 marked the 50th Anniversary of Hip Hop — What exactly does that mean to and for you?

50th Anniversary of Hip Hop is extremely dope. I am proud of Hip Hop for the most part. And, I am happy to be a part of the genre.

To quote the late, great The Notorious B.I.G., “You never thought that Hip Hop would take it this far!” — Was this something that you ever could’ve imagined?

Yes! I’ve always seen Hip Hop as an unstoppable force. Always!

What are some of your fondest, most stand-out moments / memories during your lengthy tenure in this thing called Hip Hop?

Performing in stadiums, and being asked to keep going after a full show.

That said, what are your future plans and / or goals for the 2025 season?

New music, building my companies in the media space.

Switching gears here, what exactly do you want people to get from your music?

A good feeling, hope, and aspiration.

If you could collaborate with any one artist, living or dead, who would it be and why?

2Pac, Michael Jackson, Prince, Juice WRLD, King Von, Biggie, Biz Markie, XXX, Pop Smoke; I love their artistry.

If you could play any venue in the world, which one would you choose and why?

Compton College. In hopes to bring peace 2 my city.

On a more serious note, are you happy with the current state of Hip Hop?

Not particularly happy with Hip Hop, but optimistic about (it) nevertheless.

What do you feel has and will continue to be the key to your longevity?

Just continue to grow and evolve as music evolves.

Do you have any other outside / additional (future) aspirations, maybe even completely away from entertainment?

Yes. To teach. Build Mosajid / Mosque in Compton.

What’s an average day like for you?

Prayer. Children. Exercise. Work. Socials. Expanding on ideas.

What is your favorite part about this line of work? Your least favorite? And, why?

Favorite part is simply the art. Least fave is unfair biz practices.

What advice would you have for someone wanting to follow in your footsteps?

To follow thier own. Better follow who I am trying to follow, Prophet Muhammad.

Looking ahead, say five or maybe even ten years from now, where do you see yourself?

Retired. Living abroad. Happy & contented. God willing!

Is there anything I left out or just plain forgot to mention?

I have new music on YouTube / iTunes / etcetera; subscribe to my podcast: BGKOTV & Hub and Dub Next Level Podcast. ‘Prelessons’ indpendent film series coming!
