WCS gets those hard to get exclusives. Today we bring you Greg Mack, the legendary former programmer for 1580 KDAY AM. The station was responsible for breaking every act on the West Coast during it’s run including Eazy-E’s “Boyz N The Hood” in which Greg tells the story in this interview. KDAY is important to hip-hop history since it was the first station in the country to adopt what is now known as the “rhythmic format”. It was a combination of hip-hop, r & b, and freestyle which was a direct reflection of the streets. Rap artists from East to West Coast were introduced and given a platform. Greg adopted an open door policy meaning that artists could drop off their music to the station and if he liked it, he would play it on the air, something that is unheard of in today’s radio industry. Check out this interview and learn more about the legend of Greg Mack and 1580 KDAY.
