Snoop Dogg was the latets guest on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast show, and talked with host Joe Rogan about freestyling his songs during the making of his 1993 debut album Doggystyle on Death Row Records, and the East Coast/West Coast rivalry in the mid-90s.

When Rogan asked Snoop how he goes about creating his songs and putting them together, and if he writes his lines down or says them until he remembers them, Snoop replied, “My first album, Doggystyle, I got two songs where I just freestyled. One is called Gz and Hustlas, and one is called Tha Shiznit. Those two songs I just went in there and freestyled whatever came out of my mind and my head. I’ve been good at that for a long time, but a lot of times I like to make sure that I’m pinpointing a specific topic, s specific cadence, and a specific style that I’m trying to perfect when I’m making a song.”

Following up, Joe Rogan asks,”So, when you say you freestyles, you mean like when you walked in you really didn’t know what you were going to say when you were recording it?”

Snoop answered, “Well, the song Tha Shiznit was just supposed to be a mic check. Mic Check, 1, 2, and then Dre put the beat on. Mic check 1, 2, [hums the Tha Shiznit]..Poppin’, stoppin’, hoppin’ like a rabbit/When I take the Nina Ross, you know I gots to have it/I lay back in the cut retain myself/Think about the shit and I’m thinkin’ wealth/How can I makes my grip?/And how should I make that nigga straight slip?/Set trip, gotta get him for his grip/As I dip around the corner, now, I’m on a
