In the latest part of his interview with Shirley Ju of VladTV, west coast legend, Dogg Pound member, and Grammy Award-nominated emcee Kurupt discusses forming the Dogg Pound with Daz Dillinger, getting “Niggaz Don’t Give A Fuck” on the Janet Jackson and 2Pac-starring Poetic Justice movie soundtrack, being featured on the debut album Doggystyle from Snoop Dogg, and doing his first video for “Doggy Dogg World”. “Right after The Chronic, Poetic Justice came out..they wanted Snoop on it. John Singleton did. Suge was like, ‘we about to drop Doggystyle, he can’t be on it. But we got the Dogg Pound.’ Me and Daz just made a group after The Chronic. We got together, we were together all the time. We said we just might as well make a group. He’s Snoop, we the Dogg Pound, and we’re going to represent all the homies. Suge loved it, Dr. Dre loved it, Dogg loved it.” In an earlier episode, Kurupt discussed the making of “Stranded On Death Row”, a song he featured on with Snoop Dogg, The Lady of Rage, and RBX from the 1992 Dr. Dre debut solo album The Chronic on Death Row Records. “All I could think of was stranded on death row. From there, it set the whole tone of the record. We had no subject matter, Dr. Dre said ‘just bust’. So I set it off like that. I said, inmate cell block one. From there, Dr. Dre said, ‘everybody, y’all inmates! mention you’re cell block’.” Kurupt goes on to reflect on how amazing it was for him at the time to have helped create the title of the song and set the pace of the record for everyone to follow. Check out Kurupt talking about forming the Dogg Pound with Daz Dillinger, getting “Niggaz Don’t Give A Fuck” on the Poetic Justice soundtrack, and being featured on the debut album Doggystyle from Snoop Dogg below:
