The inaugural film from Snoop Dogg‘s film company Death Row Pictures, which he runs with Sara Ramaker, will be a biopic on the Long Beach icon and entertainment mogul, a film being developed by Universal.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Universal is getting Black PantherWakanda Forever co-writer Joe Robert Cole to pen the script, and Menace II Society and Dead Presidents director Allen Hughes to direct the film.

“I waited a long time to put this project together because I wanted to choose the right director, the perfect writer, and the greatest movie company I could partner with that could understand the legacy that I’m trying to portray on screen, and the memory I’m trying to leave behind,” said Snoop in a statement. “It was the perfect marriage. It was holy matrimony, not holy macaroni.”

Snoop Dogg will be heavily involved with the project, which will also include music from his vast and historic catalog. He is producing the film, along with Ramaker and Hughes.

Universal also has produced other hip-hop biopics like the Oscar-nominated Straight Outta Compton, which told the story of N.W.A, as well as 2002’s 8 Mile, a semi-autobiographical story of Eminem which also won the Oscar for best original song with “Lose Yourself.”
