For most independent artists staying consistent and promoting all their music is a difficult task with little to no recognition or reward however there are examples of the payoff when you stay on the gas and continue to work. Afroman released his debut single “Because I Got High” in July 2001. 22 years later his hit single has been certified platinum by the RIAA. Afromans hit single would be nominated for a Grammy in 2003 for Best Solo Rap Performance. After the success of the single, he would go on to sign a six-album deal with Universal.

Afroman would have success in non-traditional markets being an early adopter of using the internet to market, promote, and distribute his music. Afroman would also be added to Cypress Hill’s festival lineup and continue to perform on large stages and festivals. 2023 he is still touring and making his brand of unique music. Congratulations to the OG.
