Strange Music artist King ISO has just released a new album, iLLdren, now out on all digital streaming platforms. Our own “muzikscribe” Todd “DG” Davis caught up with King ISO to be a part of the epic WCS HipHop50 series – and in doing so has joined a long list of artists who have also partaken in it. Read below!

First things first, this year (August 11th) marked the 50th Anniversary of Hip Hop — What exactly does that mean to and for you?

Well, it’s crazy because my first born son’s b-day is August 11th 2011. Hip Hop and my son share the day!

To quote the late, great The Notorious B.I.G., “You never thought that Hip Hop would take it this far!” — Was this something that you ever could’ve imagined?

Definitely because we were just kids with dreams to do this Hip Hop thing. Now we’re traveling overseas touring and more. Super surreal!

What are some of your fondest, most stand-out moments / memories from your lengthy tenure in this thing called Hip Hop?

The opening of cassette tapes and CDs, peeling the plastic off and excitement to see the booklets and everything. The impact of it being an EXPERIENCE from the packaging to the listening.

That said, what are your future plans and / or goals throughout the remainder of 2023, going right into ‘24?

My plans are to keep making incredible music and having a positive impact on all of my supporters.

Switching gears here, what exactly do you want people to get from your music?

What I want people to get from my music is an understanding of relativity, as well as healing and knowing they can make it through all adversity.
On a more serious note, are you happy with the current state of Hip Hop?

I love Hip Hop! It’s not going anywhere and many different forms are happening. I like what I like and people have their preferences. Isn’t it dope that Hip Hop literally has something for EVERYONE?!

Do you have any other outside / additional (future) aspirations, maybe even completely away from entertainment?

Everyone knows I love fitness, so there’s that lane. I also have plans to do more work with the mental health programs, and also get into films / books. So much more!

What’s an average day like for you?

An average day for me is being a father who stays fit and makes time for everything needed for a healthy balance.
Please discuss how you interact with and respond to fans…

I do this thing called Mental Health Mondays where I talk to the fans and it’s pretty dope. We all share our stories and help each other cope.

What is your favorite part about this line of work? Your least favorite? And, why?

IMPACT, because the power of positivity is Limitless for the greater good!
What advice would you have for someone wanting to follow in your footsteps?

Be YOURSELF and be proud of that. Stay true to YOU!
Looking ahead, say five or maybe even ten years from now, where do you see yourself?

Lord willing I’m alive, I’ll be doing more amazing things and still prospering! Healthy as ever!

Is there anything I left out or just plain forgot to mention?

And, any “parting” words for our readers?
In conclusion, whoever reads this I hope you’re well and whatever silent battles and wars you may be fighting that you WIN. Enjoy life and take some time for YOU. Forgive people and take accountability. Be fair to yourself and others. May peace be with you. Much love.
